The Current Status of Blackmask

Hey there! Ryan the Art Guy here and welcome to the new website! Consider this our new home base for news, articles, and announcements for Blackmask!

For the past months, I’ve been posting artwork on my personal Twitter and Instagram. I didn’t post them on the main Blackmask Twitter or Instagram pages because those pages are better for concrete game-related news, instead of my pie-in-the-sky wish fulfillment art. Not to say none of the art I post won’t show up in the game, though!

That being said, actual development is pressing on! Adam’s got most of the heavy lifting done with building Enemy AI and Menu Systems! You may not think it’s glamorous, but the tiny things help push Blackmask to a state of real playability!

Adam also learned some cool new tricks with Blend Trees in Unity to make the pixel animation dynamic. The next course of action is to do more game planning and grey box testing!

Writing the main story of Cole’s merchant adventure is also in a firmer state. Adam and I have a story beat outline for the demo that we’ve agreed on, and we can advance on gameplay sequences!

For myself, there is plenty of pixel art to do. Right now, I’m making new enemies, such as a low-sweeping Weasel Bandit and a colossal Bear Bandit! This along with the current mix of Fox Bandits to get the size variety of animals in the gameplay and story!

We’re also arranging to show off Blackmask at events such as Penny Arcade Expo and the like! It’s far off, but stick around for our future announcements!
